Why Foster?

Fosters are the backbones of our mission. Fosters provide a safe and loving place for animals that were abandoned. For every foster family that takes a pup in it opens a spot for another pup to be taken in from unfortunate situations such as kill shelters and being dumped on the side of the road. Our fosters provide the necessary component of time and love to help. Fostering is a big undertaking and by doing so you are personally directly helping the rescue of an animal.

The average foster stay is approximately 2-3 weeks. All pups that come to us are held for about 1 week before they are available for adoption. How long foster pups are with us can vary for a variety of reasons. If you can’t foster for longer periods, let us know in advance so we can figure things out.

We require all fosters to be at least 18 years of age. If Fosters rent we require landlord approval to have an animal in the home. Fosters are expected to be able to make it to adoption events as well as possible vetting appointments.

Happy Life will provide a crate, leash, collar, and food. We just ask fosters to provide a safe and loving environment. Happy Life covers vetting costs. If your foster needs to see a vet definitely get in touch with us.

Fosters are encouraged to join our private foster Facebook group where everyone can share stories and ask questions. If it’s a serious question reach out to the foster team and they’ll be in touch as soon as possible.

Yes and No, while we do like to give fosters some choice in who they can foster, we like to be able to set up fosters for success. Some pups might not be able to be a good fit and the team might deny certain pups.

first-time fosters are not permitted to adopt their foster. we ask fosters to foster a minimum of 3 times before adopting. While it might be hard to give up your first pup, remember you are doing a great thing and changing lives.
