A Small Update to Our Cat Adoption Fee

If you’ve looked at our adoption page recently, you may have noticed our cat adoption fee has gone up slightly, from $225 to $250. We don’t love raising fees, but we wanted to be upfront with you about why, and how you can help if you’re able.

Why the increase

Like a lot of households and small organizations right now, we’re feeling the cost of just about everything rise: vet care, food, litter, and the everyday supplies that keep our cats healthy and comfortable while they wait for their forever homes. None of these costs are new — they’ve just quietly crept up over the past year, and our adoption fee hasn’t kept pace with them.

Even at $250, this fee doesn’t come close to covering what it actually costs us to prepare a cat for adoption. Every cat that comes through Happy Life receives spay or neuter surgery, FIV/FeLV testing, age-appropriate vaccines, a full veterinary evaluation, flea and parasite treatment, and deworming — and that’s before we count the pull fees, transport, and day-to-day food and care that happen long before you ever meet them. One unexpected illness or injury can cost more than the entire adoption fee on its own.

What this means for adopters

Nothing changes about the experience of adopting from us — our process, our counselors, and our commitment to finding the right match for your home stay exactly the same. The $250 fee still reflects real savings compared to paying for these services individually at a local vet, and it goes directly back into caring for the next cat who needs us.

Another way to help: become a monthly donor

If you’ve already got a Happy Life pet at home (or just love what we do), one of the most powerful ways to support us is by becoming a monthly donor. Recurring gifts, even small ones, help us cover the everyday costs — food, litter, vet visits — without waiting on the ebb and flow of one-time donations or adoption fees. It’s a steady, dependable way to make sure we’re there for the next cat who needs rescuing.
